I guess it was near the end of April when Paul and I got back together at the same place on the Ganaraska River. It was a fairly nice day with the fish spawning. We were getting a little crazy when we choose an old willow to paint which had been walking away from the river going north by sending down branches into the ground to make new roots. We both agreed that it is necessary to choose plausible and believable subjects but we painted it anyway. I was beginning to have fun with the calligraphy of the big brush.

The vispo of Nico Vassilakis is frequently centered around the attempt to extend the time of the viewer's look at the components of written language, so that a look turns into a stare. As he has put it, individual moments of looking at words are "bundled." The meaning comes up almost instantaneously as "what you recall of its definition," after which one quickly moves past that moment. But staring a bit longer becomes "a portal, a doorknob into the larger notion of time" in which the quick "bundled" meaning of a word slips or mutates into something else.

Ana Olinto was born in 1977 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since her early years she demonstrated interest for all the arts, but her formal painting studies only began in 2003, when she providentially came to know her master, the painter and engraver Gianguido Bonfanti. Ana's greatest influences come perhaps from Picasso, Iberê Camargo, the painting from old China and the "undefinable atmosphere of our time".
